Foods That Cause Gout

Before I go into more detail about Gout, let me introduce myself.  My name is Robert and I’m 32 years old and I was diagnosed with gout when I was 28 years old.  This is normally a really young age to develop Gout, however Gout was very strong in my families genes, so my chances of getting gout was highly likely.  Now that I know I have gout I’ve done extensive research on what I need to do to avoid gout attacks.

To get a good understanding of the Foods That Cause Gout, you first need to be educated a little more about what Gout is.  Gout is a form of arthritis that is caused by an excessive amount of uric acid in your body.  Gout can range from a mild throbbing pain to an extremely disabling pain. Most people get gout in their big toe, but gout can essentially develop in any joint in your body.  The toe is most likely since it receives the least circulation in your body.  I myself have had gout on my toes, fingers, elbows, and knees.  If you think you have gout click here for more information on Gout Symptoms.

So, what can I do to avoid gout attacks?

The first thing you need to realize about gout is that there are several factors that contribute to gout attacks, one of the most controllable factors is food and drink.  Since excessive amounts of uric acid is the root cause of gout attacks the food and drinks that you consume have a direct effect on gout.  Your body forms uric acid when it breaks down the purine in the food you eat, therefore the amount of purine in the food and drinks you consume effects the amount of uric acid that is formed in your body.  Once the level of uric acid in your body reaches a certain threshold, the excessive uric acid deposits crystals called tophi into the joints.  Your anti-bodies will react to the crystal deposits which in turn makes your joint become inflamed.

It’s important to know that high purine foods cause your body to create more uric acid in your body.  With this information you can avoid eating extremely high purine foods and to eat certain foods in moderation.

It is essential to avoid eating high purine foods to avoid producing high levels of uric acid.  To do this you need to know what Gout Foods To Avoid.
